English information about the TwenteAdvent project

In this Advent time, we follow the project from the Adventsactie from Congo. Congo-Kinshasa is the perhaps biggest country in Africa. Masisi is in the middle south of Congo, near the border with Rwanda. If the Netherlands would be mapped onto Congo, you would find Masisi in Enschede. In real NL fits 60 times in Congo.

The region (North-Kivu) is suffering from long-term extremist violence. Though peace-keeping soldiers from the United Nations together with the legal forces, try to protect the local people, the hospitals and doctors (who are fighting Ebola), sometimes locals need to leave their villages anyway. At this moment some 20.000 internally displaced persons reside in the neighborhood of Masisi. And search for  a new methods of existence. The local parish of Masisi made land available for some 50 families. It is important to break the circle of sickness, having no money, having no food.

The local organisation CAJED, helps youngsters and young families. CAJED is located in the neighbor capital Goma. CAJED supplies seeds and hoes (NL: schoffel). The Swahili word for hoe is jemmbè

In this way they can take care about themselves.

More English information about CAJED  via the website of Emmaus can be found here: https://www.emmaus-international.org

The motto of this advents-action is: Delen smaakt naar meer. Sharing tastes better.
